In Support of Military Families

Pioneer joined forces with our customers across Ontario fr our first province-wide Operation Yellow Ribbon campaign from October 24 to November 11, 2012, raising $130,543! Funds raised were presented at the Operation Yellow Ribbon Gala, an event that raised more than $600,000 in support of soldiers and their families.

The Operation yellow Ribbon Gala, held at John Foote Armouries in Hamilton on November 8, received the support of more than 32 corporate and individual sponsors led by Pioneer and RBC. The funds raised were donated to Canada Company, a registered charity that advocates for our troops at home and abroad, and the Thirteenth (XII) Regiment Foundation. The Foundation supports the families and soldiers of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry (RHLI), and helps to sustain the heritage and traditions of this illustrious infantry unit, now 150 years old.

Pioneer's site-level campaign began three years ago in Hamilton. That success suggested that Pioneer customers across Ontario might also like to show their support for our troops in this manner. The proceeds of the June Pioneer Golf Tournament also supported Operation Yellow Ribbon in 2012.

"This is Pioneer's way of supporting a number of programs that provide for our soldiers, their families, and the regimental family they belong to," says Tim Hogarth, Honorary Colonel of the RHLO and President and CEO of Pioneer Energy. "This provides funding for a number of programs and initiatives such as scholarships, and helping soldiers transition to the civilian workforce. The government doesn't provide support for these initiatives. it's up to the private sector to step in."

Thank you to everyone at Pioneer, our retailers, employees and partners for making Operation Yellow Ribbon 2012 a resounding success! It is a testament o the appreciation that we have for our soldiers and the commitment and sacrifice they have shown us as Canadians.
